We Believe

Every Child Deserves to be Understood Before They are Taught

About Us

Spark English Center Vietnam is a premium English learning center in Thao Dien, Ho Chi Minh City. We support students at international and bilingual schools across HCMC with structured, results-driven programs in Phonics, ESL, Academic English, and IELTS preparation.

We keep classes small. Maximum six students. Every student gets a personalized learning plan. Every lesson is structured around measurable progress, not just activity.

We are MOET-licensed and independently operated. No franchise. No corporate curriculum. Just experienced teachers, proven methods, and a genuine commitment to each child's growth.

How Spark Started

Spark was founded in 2019 with a simple observation: too many children at good schools were still struggling with English.

Not because they lacked ability. Because nobody had taken the time to find the specific gap and close it properly.

Parents were spending money on large-class centers where their child was one of twenty. Or cycling through private tutors who helped with homework but never built the underlying skills. Progress was slow, inconsistent, or invisible. Spark was built to fix that.

We started with a small group of students and one clear principle: assess first, teach second. Find out exactly where a child is. Build a plan around what they actually need. Keep the class small enough that the teacher can see every mistake, correct every misunderstanding, and celebrate every step forward.

That principle has not changed. Today, Spark serves students from over a dozen international and bilingual schools across Ho Chi Minh City, from early phonics learners to IELTS candidates preparing for international university admissions.

What Makes Spark Differnt

Six Things That Set Us Apart

Maximum 6 Students Per Class

This is not a marketing number. It is a hard limit. Research shows that meaningful individual feedback drops sharply beyond six students. We enforce this because it is the foundation of everything we do.

Diagnostic Process Assessment Before Everything

Every student begins with a free, comprehensive English assessment. We evaluate reading, writing, speaking, and listening. We identify specific gaps. We build a personalized learning plan before the first lesson begins.

Structured Programs, Not Generic Classes

We do not offer "general English conversation." Our four core programs, Phonics and Early Literacy, ESL Foundations, Academic English, and IELTS Preparation, are each built around specific learning outcomes with clear progression milestones.

MOET-Licensed and Independently Operated

Spark holds a full MOET teaching license through our registered Vietnamese entity. We are not a franchise or branch of a larger chain. Every decision about curriculum, teaching methods, and class structure is made here, for the students in front of us.

Aligned with International School Curricula

Our teachers understand IB, Cambridge, and Vietnamese bilingual curricula. We do not teach in isolation. We build the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills students need to succeed in their actual school environment.

Real Results, Tracked and Shared

Parents receive regular progress updates through ClassDojo and quarterly parent meetings via Zoom. We track improvement, share it clearly, and adjust plans as students grow.

Our Programs

From First Sounds to University Ready

Spark offers four structured programs that together form a complete English learning pathway

Phonics and Early Literacy (Ages 3-7)

Systematic phonics instruction that teaches children to decode English from their very first sounds. Using Cambridge YLE-aligned materials (Fun for Starters, Movers, Flyers), we build the reading and spelling foundations that many international schools skip or rush through.

ESL Foundations (Ages 7-12)

For students building English from the ground up. This program moves learners from functional communication to academic readiness, with CEFR-aligned progression and balanced development across all four language skills.

Academic English (Ages 10-16)

Targeted support for students already in international or bilingual schools. We focus on reading comprehension, essay structure, grammar accuracy, and the critical thinking skills required by IB, Cambridge, and bilingual curricula.

IELTS Preparation (Ages 14+)

Led by Joe Evans, our IELTS program covers every band level from 4.5 to 9.0 across four structured stages: Entry, Intermediate, Advanced, and Elite. Over 95% of our IELTS students achieve Band 7.5 or higher.

  • Q: What is the class size at Spark?

A: Maximum 6 students per class. This is a hard limit, not an average. We enforce this because research shows that meaningful individual feedback and correction drops sharply beyond six students. Small classes allow our teachers to see every mistake, adjust every plan, and give each student the attention they need.

  • Q: Who is the IELTS instructor at Spark?

A: Joe Evans is the Director and lead IELTS instructor at Spark English Center Vietnam. He holds an MBA and MS from Texas Tech University and a TEFL Masters Certification. • Q: How is Spark different from large English centers like ILA, VUS, or DOL?

A: Spark is not a factory. We keep classes at a maximum of 6 students. We focus exclusively on academic English support and IELTS preparation, not general conversation classes. Our programs are designed around the specific demands of international and bilingual school curricula, with teachers who understand IB, Cambridge, and Vietnamese bilingual systems. Every student receives a personalized learning plan.

  • Q: How is Spark different from a private tutor?

A: Private tutors typically help with homework but rarely build the underlying skills a student is missing. Spark provides structured curriculum, clear progression milestones, peer learning in a small group, progress tracking, and quarterly parent meetings. It is systematic skill development, not session-by-session support.

  • Q: Do you offer a free assessment?

A: Yes. Every student begins with a free, comprehensive English assessment covering reading, writing, speaking, and listening. After the assessment, parents receive a detailed report with their child's current level, identified gaps, and a recommended learning plan. There is no obligation to enroll.

  • Q: How do parents track their child's progress at Spark?

A: Teachers communicate with parents directly through ClassDojo. Spark also holds quarterly parent meetings via Zoom, a 20-minute one-on-one call every three months to discuss progress, challenges, and strategies for supporting learning at home.

  • Q: Does Spark help with international school homework and assignments?

A: Yes. Our Academic English program is designed to help students with their actual schoolwork:

completing assignments, improving essays, and understanding class materials more effectively.

We work alongside, not against, what students are learning at school.

  • Q: Can Spark help my child prepare for international university admissions?

A: Yes. Our IELTS program and Academic English tracks are specifically designed to prepare students for international university admission. We help students achieve the English proficiency and academic writing skills required by universities in the UK, US, Australia, Canada, and beyond.

  • Q: What is the difference between ESL and Academic English?

A: ESL (English as a Second Language) focuses on building general communication skills from the ground up, ideal for students who are still developing basic English fluency. Academic English goes further: it develops the reading comprehension, structured essay writing, analytical thinking, and subject-specific vocabulary needed to succeed in an English-medium school environment. Many students need to transition from ESL to Academic English as their fluency grows.

  • Q: What phonics method does Spark use?

A: Spark uses systematic, evidence-based phonics instruction. We teach children to decode English from individual letter sounds through blending, segmenting, and reading connected text. Our program is aligned with Cambridge YLE standards and uses materials including Fun for Starters, Movers, and Flyers. This approach gives children the tools to read independently rather than relying on memorization or guessing.

  • Q: How long does it take to see improvement?

A: Most students show noticeable progress within 8 to 12 weeks for reading and writing skills. Significant academic improvement, including better school grades and teacher feedback, typically occurs within 3 to 6 months of consistent attendance.

  • Q: Do you offer sibling discounts or referral programs?

A: Yes. Siblings are eligible for a 5% discount on class fees. Families also receive a one-time 10% referral discount on the first month's enrollment fee for every new student they refer who enrolls in a quarterly program. There is no cap on referrals.

  • Q: What are Spark's operating hours and location?

A: Spark is open Monday through Saturday. Classes are available from morning to evening with flexible scheduling. We are located at 204B7/12 Nguyen Van Huong, Thao Dien Ward, Ho Chi Minh City. To inquire or book an assessment, call 0398143487 or email sparkalcvn@gmail.com.
